Volunteer Recognition & Appreciation Events

  • Volunteers of the Week Program, sponsored by Tim Horton's and supported by the Daily Herald Tribune and Channel 7
Non-profit organizations are encouraged to contact the Volunteer Services Bureau to nominate a volunteer who has made a valuable contribution to their organizations. Five recipients will be identified each week and highlighted in the VSB's weekly column in the DHT and on Persona Cable’s Channel 7. Additionally, each recipient will receive a gift package from Tim Horton's and an entry in the monthly draw to win a Tim Horton's Home Brewer. There is no cost to the nominating organization.  All nominees must be submitted by the last day of the month in order to be considered for the following month (space permitting).  Each nominating organization is invited to submit up to four nominations per month. To view this weeks nominations please click here.

  • Leaders of Tomorrow Awards presented by ATCO
These awards recognize students (aged 13-18) who have made outstanding contributions to their communities through volunteerism. The awards are presented at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held in April.

  • International Volunteer Day - December 5th
Each year, the Volunteer Services Bureau hosts the IVD Celebration Breakfast where community volunteers, volunteer involving organizations, and volunteer supporters come together in recognition of the significant contributions volunteers make throughout the world. This breakfast is made possible by the generous contributions of our local businesses and organizations. In years when December 5th falls on a weekend, the Celebration Breakfast will be held on the Friday prior to the weekend.

  • Volunteer Opportunity Listings
Volunteer listings are available on the VSB website and are included in our weekly Daily Herald Tribune column. Volunteers may contact organizations directly or sign up online. To post your volunteer opportunity please click here.

  • VSB Internal Volunteer Database
Organizations can request a report of possible volunteers based on interests (i.e. working with animals). From our internal database of volunteers, the VSB can generate a report for the requesting organization, at which time the organization may contact the individuals and recruit new volunteers.

Professional Development Workshops

The VSB provides opportunities for volunteers, volunteer managers, and volunteer involving organizations to gain new skills through professional development training. Workshops are developed based on feedback from the community and emerging trends within the voluntary sector.  For a complete list of upcoming professional development opportunities, please click here.
