The United Nations General Assembly created International Volunteer Day (IVD) in 1985 as an annual celebration of voluntary action for volunteers, volunteer organizations and governments. The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the designated international focal point for IVD, and supports and encourages its worldwide celebration on December 5th each year.

Celebration Breakfast
The Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau recognizes the value of this day and honours our community's volunteers through an annual Celebration Breakfast. In 2011, the Celebration Breakfast will be held at the Golden Age Centre (10222 - 101 Avenue) from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011.
